Hi, I’m Julia! I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Social Worker providing counselling for children ages 4 and up, as well as adults interested in somatic (body-based) therapy.
In my work with children, I use child-centred play therapy (CCPT), a developmentally appropriate and research supported approach to child counselling that enables children to express emotions, experiences, and needs through play rather than words. CCPT is known for supporting children experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, behavioural concerns, grief, trauma, and family transitions. It is an approach that helps children build self-confidence, an emotional vocabulary and emotional regulation, and self-control.
In my work with adults, I primarily use the Hakomi Method, which integrates mindfulness of the body to uncover unconscious patterns that influence how we think, feel, relate, and behave. By paying close attention to subtle bodily sensations, clients can access deeply held beliefs and habitual responses that may no longer serve them. I also harness sand tray therapy. Using miniature figurines and sand, clients can create symbolic scenes that reflect inner thoughts and feelings, revealing insights and understanding that might be hard to access through words alone.
Whether I am supporting a child through play-based therapy or working with an adult seeking greater emotional well-being, my intention is to meet each person with openness, compassion, and respect. I trust in the natural capacity for healing and aim to support that process in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
